The Ministry of Gun Violence Prevention would like to share the following updates:
- The Rev. Meghan Ryan has been called as co-Missioner, alongside Jeff Wunrow (advocacy) and Janet Hyde (education.) In this role, Mo. Meghan will be organizing worship and liturgical resources, as well as helping plan any appropriate services of lament.
- GVP continues to work on hosting a BeSMART presentation in every parish! If you would like to host a child safety-focused presentation at your parish, please let us know. More information about BeSMART can be found here: https://besmartforkids.org/
- In partnership with our Missioner for Public Advocacy, the Ministry of GVP is encouraging all Episcopalians to VOTE this summer and fall. Go to the polls with your faith teachings at heart. Jeff Wunrow is developing a voter education and mobilization plan to include a webpage (diocesemo.org/vote-faithfully) well-stocked with flyers, bulletin inserts and newsletter announcements about a variety of issues and ways to vote faithfully in November. Watch for additional articles in our Proclaim newsletter.
- GVP representatives from every parish meet monthly to make sure that we are staying on top of the most important and pressing issues around guns in our communities and connecting with every parish in the Diocese. If your parish does not have a GVP representative, please let us know if there is someone who would like to serve in this capacity. It only involves a monthly Zoom meeting and a few emails a year, but it's helpful to keep all parishes connected to this mission.
