The photo on this page was taken by Lesley McIntire, one of the commissioners on the diocesan Creation Care Ministry, just last week. Taken near Kelly, Wyoming, it is a sunset filtering through the smoke from the fires in Northern California, several hundred miles from Lesley’s location.
The largest fire at the moment is the Dixie fire, which has charred 764 square miles of land. Burning for several weeks now, it is the direct result of climate change.
Increasing heat, changing rain and snow patterns, and shifts in plant communities all contribute to the remarkable increase and severity of wild fires in the western U.S.
Creation Care Ministry will be hosting both book club studies and webinars in the coming weeks on both the science behind these natural catastrophes, as well as their spiritual implications for people of faith.
Our webinars will feature speakers well-versed in their specific topics and how climate change challenges agriculture, food resources, and the economy. Please watch this feature for further updates on our activities and events. Thank you.
