A Public Advocacy Update from The Rev. Dr. Teresa Mithen Danieley

Thank you to everyone who donated so that Missioners, Episcopalians and Christians throughout Missouri will be able to use Voter Voice again in the 2025 Missouri Legislative Session. Missouri legislators have started filing bills for the 2025 Missouri Legislative Session and Jeff Wunrow and I will be paying close attention to which bills get assigned to committee and require action through Voter Voice. We will also be working with Missouri Jobs with Justice and other groups to organize In-District meetings with State Senators and State Representatives to share our beliefs and commitments with them in in-person meetings in their own districts. If you are interested in participating in the planning of an In-District meeting with your own State Senator or State Rep, please contact me at publicadvocacy@diocesemo.org

Here is an update on the outcome of the November 5 Election in Missouri from Missouri Jobs with Justice Voter Action Political Director, Kay Mills:

A bright spot on November 5 was that Missouri voters delivered a decisive victory for working families, voting for Proposition A to raise the minimum wage and guarantee paid sick time for Missouri workers with over 57% of the vote statewide.  And Amendment 3 to ensure reproductive freedom in Missouri passed with almost 52 percent of the vote statewide.

The results of Prop A and Amendment 3 show us that when, and where, we organize and connect with voters we win.  But we must continue to organize to protect our wins. We have to protect our access to direct democracy, our tool for making change through the ballot initiative process when our legislators don’t listen to us. And we have to organize with workers to defend our wins and make sure that workers know about their rights to an increased minimum wage and earned paid sick time.

We came together across race, class and zip code to pass proposition A and Amendment 3. Working people stood together to fight for themselves and their families. And we worked hard to win.

Now we must keep organizing together to defend those wins.

  • Join us to demand that Missouri Legislators respect the will of Missouri voters and protect Prop A and Amendment 3

  • Join us in solidarity to be a Democracy Defender

  • Join our Know Your Rights campaign
