Whitney Dio KS Election

The Rev. Canon Whitney Rice Elected Eleventh Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas

The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri joyfully celebrates the election of the Rev. Canon Whitney Rice, our Canon to the Ordinary, as the Eleventh Bishop Diocesan of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas.

Canon Whitney's election marks an exciting new chapter in her ministry and a moment of both celebration and bittersweet transition for our diocesan community.

Throughout her ministry in the Diocese of Missouri, Canon Whitney has been a dedicated leader, faithful colleague, and valued member of our diocesan family. Her commitment to serving God's people and strengthening the mission of the Church has been a blessing to our community.

In a heartfelt letter to the diocese, Canon Whitney expressed her gratitude for the love, encouragement, and support she has received throughout her ministry in Missouri.

"The Diocese of Missouri has raised me up to leadership, has loved and supported me, and has shown me the meaning of faithful discipleship in this day and time," she shared.

Canon Whitney also expressed her appreciation for Bishop Deon Johnson's guidance and support throughout the discernment process. While she looks forward to beginning her new ministry in Kansas, she remains committed to her responsibilities as Canon to the Ordinary during this time of transition.

As a diocese, we are incredibly excited for Canon Whitney as she answers this new call to leadership. Although we will miss her presence and ministry among us, we celebrate the gifts she will bring to the people of Kansas and the wider Episcopal Church.

We invite our diocesan community to join us in congratulating Canon Whitney and holding her in prayer as she prepares to embrace this new role. May God continue to guide, strengthen, and inspire her as she begins this next chapter of faithful service.
