The Gun Violence Prevention Mission continues its work in January through education, advocacy, and community engagement, offering meaningful ways for Episcopalians across the diocese to learn, stay informed, and take action.
This month includes a four-week book study beginning January 19, led by co-missioner for education Janet Hyde, exploring The Psychology of Gun Violence: How Smart Choices Can Save Lives. The study offers insight into the roots of gun violence in America and practical ways informed choices can help save lives.
January also marks the opening of the 2026 Missouri General Assembly legislative session, where proposed legislation may impact gun safety efforts statewide. The Mission Team will continue partnering with trusted organizations, including Moms Demand Action, to help the diocese respond when advocacy is most needed. Looking ahead, the Mission Team is preparing for Moms Demand Action Advocacy Day on April 7 at the Missouri State Capitol and will again organize a diocesan presence. The update also highlights recent additions to the Gun Violence Prevention Mission webpage, including parish representatives and information on how others can join this important work.
Together, these efforts reflect the diocese’s ongoing commitment to prayerful action, education, and advocacy in the pursuit of peace and the prevention of gun violence.
