Dr. Elizabeth M. Human, the new Head of School at The St. Michael School of Clayton, says creating a school environment that nurtures the inborn curiosity of children rather than squelching it has long been one of her goals.
"I believe that children are born wanting to learn and understand," Dr. Human said in her introductory letter to the school community. "They are curious and exploratory, with a drive to figure out how things work and where they fit into the world."
Dr. Human begins her new role with The St. Michael School of Clayton on June 1, 2024. The school is located on the grounds of The Episcopal Church of St. Michael & St. George in Clayton. The small co-educational day school serves children from nursery through 8th grade. The school welcomes children from all backgrounds, faiths, ethnicities, and cultures.
Human comes to the school with a strong background in educational leadership, having developed the middle school program at Thomas Jefferson School in St. Louis and served as the Academic Dean at Visitation Academy in St. Louis.
The new head of school says she is eager to enhance the strong experiential framework at The School of St. Michael of Clayton. "I'm excited to join a community where the capabilities of children are foregrounded, where each child is given the opportunity and the tools to explore their world and themselves."
